Perspective view of the uppermost 20 km of the southern part of the line 2A. The data have been structurally smoothed and a variance seismic attribute has been superimposed, in order to reduce noise and to emphasise subvertical features and reflection disruptions. This illustration shows a high-grade (granulite facies), gently dipping, syn-orogenic shear zone that has been folded and partly inverted during the late stages of the Svecofennian orogeny (Palaeoproterozoic). It possibly represents a detachment zone in the upper mid-crust, formed during orogen-parallel extension induced by the mobilisation of the rheologically weakened mid-crust. The...
