Shallow section with faulted clinoforms - offshore Namibia Scene

The shallow (top 2 s TWT) part of CGGVeritas' line from the VERNOB-03 survey from offshore Namibia showing structure on the outer shelf. This image can be used as a class teaching exercise on seismic stratigraphy. See Julien Moreau's interpretation and related documents.

faulted clinoforms - offshore Namibia Interpretation

VSA Author: Rob Butler

The stratal geometries on the shelf show progradational and aggradational geometry together with subtle slump scars. In 3D these mega forms probably trace lobes - hence the complex lap relationships. The stratal surfaces in the clinoforms (picked in blue) are cut by an array of moderately-dipping (once the excessive vertical exaggeration is removed) normal faults that do not continue ...

Seismic stratigraphy exercise Interpretation

VSA Author: Julien Moreau
Date Created: 2013-09-12

Correction of a seismic interpretation exercise I gave. The interpretation is uniquely based on reflection termination picking which indicate bounding surfaces. No model is involved. Colours between two successive bounding surfaces have no genetic meaning they only give a sort of chronology through the repetition of a colour cycle (blue, pink, green, yellow) . The objective of the exer...

Wheeler Diagram Exercise Interpretation

VSA Author: Julien Moreau
Organization: University of Copenhagen
Date Created: 2014-10-27

After the students have done the seismic stratigraphy of profile (former illustration), I have printed my correction of the profile on A0 paper. The students then cut out each sequence and organise them in a way that sequences do not overlap vertically. By doing so, a wheeler diagram is created which is a temporal and spacial representation of the filling of the basin. The students ca...
